Uganda is endowed with over 1060 bird species and this presents about 10 percent of the world’s total population, Uganda has over 24 endemic bird species, birding watching activity can be done across the country within all the national parks, game reserves, Ramsar sites, around water bodies and landscapes. Birding watching is done throughout the year with the best time in June to July and November to April. These are the key birding spotting areas;

Murchison falls National Park, have a chance to see about 450 bird species with 23 species endemic to Albertine rift valley. Here birds can be watched during the game drives, boat cruises and nature walks. The most common birds are grey-headed kingfisher, veracious dove, African darter, African fish eagle, and much more.
Queen Elizabeth national park is home to over 600 bird species with the key birding spots at Kazinga channel, Mweya peninsula, lake katwe, katungulu landing site, and maramagambo forest. Here birding can take place during the game drives, boat cruises at Kazinga channel, nature walks and community walks.
Lake Mburo national park is habitat for about 350 bird species which can be viewed on game drives, boat cruise, nature and community walk. The most common birds here are the rare shoebill stork, white-winged warbler, brown parrot, crested francolin, and many more.
Kidepo valley national park is the second highly concentrated national park with over 560 bird species after Queen Elizabeth national park. The park harbors 14 endemic species and over 56 bird species which are birds of prey. Among the birds, species include a pygmy falcon, Kori bustard, Verreaux’s eagle, yellow-billed hornbill, Karamoja Apalis, Egyptian vulture, Jackson’s hornbill, and the ostrich which is nowhere else in Uganda, and many more.
The Bwindi impenetrable national park, besides Mountain Gorilla trekking also bird watching is one of the activities which can be done in Bwindi. This activity can be done across all the park sectors, including Ruhija, Buhoma, Nkuringo, and Rushaga. The Bwindi impenetrable national park is endowed with over 350 bird species inclusive of 23 endemic species.
Semiliki national park is a bird paradise with about 400 species and about 12 endemic species, here birding is commonly done along river Semiliki in the boat cruise and sometimes over the game drives, the key bird species you cannot miss include African open bill, African pygmy goose, black caudal, blue breasted bee-eater, African crake, great white pelican and much more.
Mgahinga Gorilla national park is another birding spot with over 115 species, in here the activity is carried out in the dense montane forest of sabinyo and gahinga birds commonly seen here includes bronze sunbird, the Rwenzori batis, cape robin chat, black-headed waxbill, turaco, olive pigeon, brown woodland warbler, handsome francolin, scarlet tufted sunbird among others.
Kibale Forest National Park is blessed with 370 species of birds, which includes papyrus Gonolek, great blue turaco, white-winged warbler, black and white hornbill, breasted pitta, and many others. You can do birding while on the forest walk in the forest and Bigodi swamp walk.
Mount Elgon national park is home to over 300 bird species and 40 species are endemic to Mount Elgon. The spotting areas for birds include the Kapkwai forest and trail of Cheptui falls with birds like the African Goshawk, African blue flycatcher, white chinned Prinia, cinnamon bee-eater, and many more.
