Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the best place and the easily accessible place with a 99% chance of seeing mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat. Bwindi is located on the edges of the Great Rift Valley in Southwest Uganda and is one of the living oldest eco- biodiversity rainforests. The Bwindi impenetrable national park is a UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization declared World Heritage Site. The park contains a conservation habitat for colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, and many birds with about 13 out 23 Albertine rift valley endemics such as hornbills and turacos. It is most famous for the 400 gorillas’ individual species which constitute half of the worldwide population of the endangered mountain gorillas. About 20 mountain-gorilla groups are available for tourism in four specific provinces: Buhoma Ruhijja Rushaga and Nkuringo in the district of Kanungu, Kabale, and Kisoro.
Where to See Gorillas in Uganda
Mountain gorillas in Uganda live in the epically named Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, a mantle of tangled flourishing that covers the southwestern mountains of the country. Gorilla parks are located 450km away from Kampala city Uganda’s capital which is a day drive approximately 10 to 11 hours drive, as well it can be accessed on a flight charter in one hour time though more costly.
The Bwindi impenetrable national park was founded in 1991 to conserve endangered mountain gorillas. The national park lies in South West Uganda in District Kanungu covering a total area of 331 square kilometers. The park harbors about 20 habituated gorilla families that are distributed across four regions namely Buhoma sector with 4 gorilla families, Ruhija sector with 4 gorilla families, Rushaga Sector with 10 families, and the rest can be found in the Nkuringo sector. The trip between Kampala and the headquarters of the park takes around 8 to 9 hours of driving therefore you’ll have lunch on the way.

Best Time to See Gorillas in Uganda
Uganda faces two climatic seasonal changes throughout the year which are the dry and the wet season, in this case, the dry season period which occurs two times a year stands the best time and the most favorable time to see the mountain Gorillas in the wild, it is preferably considered by most tourist to visit Uganda when the dry season is experienced during the month of June to September and December to March and this is when the trekking conditions are more favorable.
National parks in Uganda are not overcrowded and you can have cheap affordable accommodation facilities during the low season because of few visitors to this park and this happens between the month of March to May and October to November, Uganda this period is regarded as the best time for low budget travelers to visit Uganda when the conditions dry it is particularly the best time for mountain Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking both in Bwindi impenetrable forest and Mgahinga Gorilla national parks. Communities living around Bwindi national park
The Batwa pygmies are the biggest population living around Bwindi national park with some tribes of the Bakiga who largely rely upon the park. These tribes comprise of big population size with high birth rates and extremely low living standards. The Batwa pygmies formally stayed inside the forest and relied on the forest for food and shelter and were relocated at the forest edge to make room for the mountain gorilla protection and conservation. These communities play a principal role in gorilla protection projects because of their vast information about the gorillas as they are accustomed to enduring them.
Golden Monkey Tracking tour and Permits
Golden Monkeys are a sub-species of the Sykes monkey also known as a ‘Blue Monkey.’ It is found living in large troops with about 60 members on the lower cliffs of the sabino and Muhabura Mountains. They also vary from other species by golden orange spots in the fur coat making them several of the prettiest monkey species in Africa. Golden monkeys are listed as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and around 5000 people live within the ranges of Rwanda Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Batwa Cultural trail in Bwindi and Mgahinga National Park
Batwa people lived peacefully for thousands of years near the forests of Bwindi impenetrable forest and Mgahinga National Park. British colonial rule constituted the beginning of the final days of the Batwa era in the forest. They were forced to live in selected camps and villages secluded from the two forest parklands of the districts of Karangu, Kabale, and Kisoro. Mount Sabinyo Hike in Mgahinga National Park
Mount Sabinyo is an extinct volcano within Virunga Range. Its narrower summit looks like worn teeth when compared to the leveler peak from neighboring mountains. The slopes and mountains are homes of the endangered mountain gorillas and other animals such as elephants, buffaloes, and various forest antelopes. Mount Sabyinyo can only be accomplished in Uganda at the moment as there is no route formed between the ridges of the Congo and Rwanda sections.
