Mubare group that was named after Mubare hills where they were first sighted, was the first habituated gorilla family in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park., this family is known for its historical significance. Mubare family is led by a dominant silverback and comprises several members, including females, juveniles, and infants.

Habinyanja is another habituated gorilla family in the Buhoma sector available for trackers. It was named after the "Nyanja" word, which means 'a place of water, this family is known for its proximity to water sources.
