The best time for gorilla trekking in Nkuringo, Bwindi, is during the dry seasons, which span from June to October and December to March. During these months, Uganda experiences mild rainfall, making the treks in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest more manageable. The vegetation is less dense, providing clearer views of the mountain gorillas and excellent opportunities for photography.

In contrast, the wet seasons of April, May, and November bring heavier rainfall, causing the vegetation to grow thicker and making sightings more challenging. However, during these months, the treks are often shorter because the gorillas do not need to travel far to find food, which is more abundant.

By Road:

To reach the Nkuringo sector by road, you can drive from Entebbe or Kampala, which takes approximately 8-9 hours. The route follows the main safari circuit, turning off at Muko along the Kabale-Kisoro Road. Look for the Uganda Wildlife Authority signpost, which will guide you to your lodge in the Nkuringo sector.

By Air:

You can also fly from Entebbe International Airport or Kampala’s Kajjansi Airfield to Kisoro Airstrip. Both scheduled and chartered flights are available through domestic airlines such as AeroLink and Fly Uganda. Coordinate with your tour operator for a transfer from the airstrip to your lodge, or arrange for your lodge to include the transfer in your package. Most lodges in Nkuringo offer transfers from Kisoro Airstrip.
