6 Days Merzouga, Fes & Chefchaouen Morocco Desert Tour

The highlight of today’s drive is crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, which offers panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and terraced farmlands. En route, you’ll have the opportunity to stop at Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its ancient kasbahs and use as a filming location for Hollywood blockbusters like “Gladiator” and “Game of Thrones.” 

Continuing your journey, you’ll arrive at Boulmane Dades by evening. Known for its stunning rock formations and lush valleys, this region is often referred to as the “Valley of Roses.” After settling into your accommodation, enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner and take in the tranquil surroundings.  

Today’s adventure takes you deeper into Morocco’s desert landscapes as you travel from Boulmane Dades to Merzouga, home to the famous Erg Chebbi dunes. The drive is filled with captivating sights, including Todra Gorge, where towering cliffs create a dramatic canyon that’s perfect for photography and exploration. 

As you approach Merzouga, the scenery transforms into vast stretches of golden sand dunes that seem to ripple endlessly into the horizon. Upon arrival, prepare for an unforgettable desert safari experience. You’ll mount camels and trek through the dunes during sunset—a magical moment that captures the essence of Morocco’s desert beauty. 

After your camel ride, you’ll arrive at your desert camp nestled among the dunes. Here, you can enjoy traditional Berber hospitality with a hearty dinner under the stars. The night is filled with music, storytelling, and the serenity of the desert—a truly unique experience.

Today wake up to a stunning sunrise over the dunes and enjoying breakfast at your camp, you’ll set off for Midelt. This drive takes you through diverse landscapes that showcase Morocco’s natural beauty. From arid plains to lush oases, every turn reveals a new perspective of this fascinating country. 

Midelt is located in the foothills of the Middle Atlas Mountains and serves as a gateway to both desert and mountain regions. Known for its apple orchards and rugged terrain, Midelt offers a peaceful retreat after two days in the desert. Spend your evening relaxing or exploring local markets for unique souvenirs.  

Today’s journey brings you to Fes, one of Morocco’s most iconic cities and a treasure trove of history and culture. As you explore Fes, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time. The city’s medina is a labyrinth of narrow alleys filled with bustling souks, traditional tanneries, and stunning architecture. 

Highlights include visiting Al-Qarawiyyin University—the oldest continuously operating university in the world—and exploring Bou Inania Madrasa, an exquisite example of Moroccan craftsmanship. The vibrant souks offer everything from spices to handcrafted goods, making them perfect for immersing yourself in local culture. 

Fes is also known for its culinary delights; be sure to savor traditional dishes like tagine or pastilla during your visit. After a day filled with exploration, retire to your accommodation for some well-deserved rest.  

On Day 5, you’ll travel north to Chefchaouen, one of Morocco’s most picturesque destinations. Known as the “Blue City,” Chefchaouen is famous for its blue-painted streets and buildings that create a dreamlike atmosphere. Nestled in the Rif Mountains, this charming town offers breathtaking views and a serene ambiance that contrasts beautifully with bustling cities like Marrakech and Fes. 

Upon arrival, take time to wander through Chefchaouen’s winding alleys adorned with vibrant flowers and artisan shops. The town is also known for its relaxed vibe—perfect for unwinding after days of travel. If time permits, hike up to Ras El Maa waterfall or explore nearby trails for panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. 

Chefchaouen is also a haven for photographers; every corner offers an Instagram-worthy shot. As evening falls, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant featuring regional specialties before retiring for the night.  

On your final day in Morocco, you’ll depart Chefchaouen and make your way back to Marrakech. This scenic drive offers one last opportunity to take in Morocco’s diverse landscapes—from mountains to plains—and reflect on the incredible experiences you’ve had over the past six days. 

Upon arrival in Marrakech, depending on your departure schedule, you may have time for some last-minute exploration or shopping in the city’s vibrant souks before heading to the airport for your flight home.
