On arrival, visit the Vakona Reserve, famous for its lemur island where you can encounter friendly lemurs up close. The reserve also features crocodiles and endemic bird species. After the visit, settle into your lodge for the night, surrounded by the soothing sounds of the forest. This is one of the most rewarding destinations for viewing a good variety of lemurs in the wild. For first-time visitors, Andasibe-Mantadia is a great place to get to grips with the island's more widespread forest birds, while serious bird-watchers come here in the hope of spotting four species of colorful ground-roller. Other inhabitants of this wonderful forest include foot-long chameleons and more than 100 species of dainty tree frog.
