This isolated area is far from any artificial distractions, enabling one to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of clean and unspoiled natural surroundings. Depending on when you arrive, you may have some time for a quick lunch or a swim in the pool while exploring the lodge's natural surrounds before you head out on an incredible 2-hour sunset Mokoro safari on the Boteti River. After a leisurely breakfast, you get ready to travel to the Nxai Pan National Park to witness an exceptionally rare annual assembly of species dispersed throughout transient grasslands. After a two to three-hour journey, we arrive at the Makgadikgadi Pan System, the largest collection of dry salt pans in the world, with our sights set on the expansive Nxai Pan, which is the starting point of Africa's longest animal migration. The Nxai Pan, an ivory-colored location with a mix of components not found anywhere else on earth, is highly unusual. The renowned Baines' Baobabs are also located on the Nxai Pan's edge.
The Nxai Pan is home to the magnificent Great Zebra Migration, where tens of thousands of plains zebras congregate every year when significant amounts of water arrive at the pans. The nocturnal Oryx antelopes and herds of African elephants also join, albeit in smaller numbers.
You'll wake up this morning to the chirping of birds, heralding the start of a new day. Typically, these birds are the reassuring tweet of the Chinspot Batis, the hurried chatter of the Lark, or the harsh call of the Oxpeckers, all of which are local to the area. We continue exploring and viewing wildlife in the Nxai Pan in order to witness the large number of animals congregating on the plains and other water bodies. Other formidable predators are pulled in, crossing the open pan to catch the fresh surge of prey, including wild dogs, hyenas, and leopards. In the early afternoon, we'll have a picnic lunch before heading back to the tented camp close to the town of Maun. In order to get to our tented camp on the banks of the Boteti River, we leave this happy festival of life and journey across the shifting scenery of parched savannah and desert. Mid-afternoon is the anticipated arrival time. Dinner will be served, and then you can unwind by the fire.
