Welcome to Morondava—the capital of the baobab tree. Arriving in the afternoon, you'll check into your hotel before the adventure begins. If you're up for it, you can head straight to the Avenue of the Baobabs to witness the sunset painting the sky in vibrant hues, and take a short city tour to soak in the coastal atmosphere. This charming town, famous for its river delta and the towering baobabs that define its landscape, sits on the west coast of Madagascar—a perfect gateway to the island's wild west.
Rise early for a journey into Kirindy Forest, a true jewel of western Madagascar. This remnant of the primary dry forest is a biodiversity hotspot, with an extraordinary rate of endemism. Over the course of 4 hours, you'll explore a world where 8 lemur species—6 of them nocturnal—live alongside 68 bird species, 43 reptiles, and countless other creatures. After a rewarding morning, return to your hotel for a well-deserved lunch. As dusk falls, venture back into the forest for an evening walk, where the nocturnal lemurs and other night creatures reveal themselves under the stars.
Your morning is dedicated to Kirindy Forest, a 10,000-hectare expanse of deciduous forest on the sandy soils of the western coastal plain. The canopy rises 12 to 15 metres high, reaching 20 to 25 metres along the watercourses, where the vegetation is denser and more humid. Beneath the canopy, the understory is thick with life. Among the trees, three majestic baobab species stand tall—Adansonia rubrostipa, Adansonia za, and the mighty Adansonia grandidieri, which can exceed 30 metres in height. After a morning of discovery, you'll return to the hotel for lunch and a rest. As the afternoon fades, you'll set out for the Avenue of the Baobabs to witness the sunset—a moment of pure magic in the heart of baobab country.
Your final day begins with breakfast at the hotel before you transfer to the airport for your flight back to the capital. The journey takes you through the rolling green highlands—a last glimpse of Madagascar's stunning scenery—before you arrive in Antananarivo, where your adventure first began. Spend the day exploring the city's rich history, with highlights including the Queen's Palace, perched on the highest hilltop, and Gare Soarano, the city's oldest train station. After a day of discovery, you'll transfer to the airport for your international departure, carrying with you memories of an unforgettable journey.
