On this safari visit, one of the oldest African montane forests is located southwest of Rwanda adjacent to the border of Burundi in the south and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the west. It is believed that the forest is the true source of the great river Nile because of its hill nature with a water stream stretching all the way into the Lake Victoria basin. Nyungwe is one of the 3 national parks in Rwanda and occupies about 970 square kilometers; the ecosystem of the forest is also supported by the dramatic Lake Kivu.
The forest is home to over 400 chimpanzee individuals alongside other 12 primate species like the colobus monkeys, vervets, olive baboon, and forest buffalos and antelopes. This tour also offers majestic views of the scenic Lake Kivu; you will also have a cultural tour to the Butare Museum and the King’s palace. Also engage in canopy walk which is the most exciting adventure not anywhere in east Africa, where guests can have a spectacular view of the forest and spot animals around, the canopy is 45 feet high this gives you a clear round view of the forest though it can be intense for those who are aero-phobic. This safari starts and ends in Kigali and as well is available throughout the year.
