Safaris in Uganda and Kenya. For at least 13-days you can engage in both a Uganda and Kenya safari to see East Africa’s finest wildlife species. There are some great grassland and primate parks in East Africa that you should visit. One of the best safaris in Uganda includes the gorilla trekking safari in Bwindi. You can track chimpanzees in Kibale National Park, go on beautiful game drives in the famous Maasai Mara, and other Kenya safaris tours.
This is the 13-day itinerary;
Day 1: Arrival in Uganda
When you get to Entebbe International Airport, a driver guide form Dav Safaris will pick you up. Meet and greet each other for a short time, then drive to your hotel to check in and clean up.
You can take a walk around town that day if you have time. You can easily book a visit to the Botanical Gardens or the Ugandan Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) or other activities in Entebbe through the front desk of your hotel. Remember that every expenditure for the day is on you. You will have dinner and a night's sleep at your hotel.
Day 2: Visit Kibale Forest National Park
The drive to Kibale Forest is beautiful because it takes you through tea fields, busy village markets, and western Uganda's typical rolling hills covered in lush green vegetation.
Kibale Forest National Park is right next to Fort Portal and covers a huge area of lush tropical jungle. It is said that there are more monkeys in this area than anywhere else in Africa. The rare red colobus monkey and the black-and-white colobus are two types of monkeys that you might see on your walks through the forest here. The best thing about going to Kibale Forest is, of course, getting to spend time with the chimpanzees.
Your 2-night stay at the camp gives you a unique rainforest experience inside the park. Stay in one of the well-designed cabins on the property; each one is in a quiet corner of the forest, so you can enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. The homes are big, and they have big terraces where you can watch the people who live in the forest go about their daily lives. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains from the main lodge building, which has stunning views of the forest canopy below.
Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and a trip to the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary
In the morning, go to the Kibale forest to look for monkey groups. Following chimps in their natural environment, swinging from trees high above the forest floor, is a great adventure. Even though they might be hard to see, you'll know they're there when their loud cries fill the forest.
After lunch, go back to the lodge to start a guided nature walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. During the walk, you will see many animals, including the Shoebill Stork, which is an ancient bird. You'll have dinner and stay at your lodge.
Day 4: Visit Queen Elizabeth Park for a game drive
You'll wake up before 6 am to the sound of birds singing in the trees. After breakfast at your lodge, talk to your driver guide again. After that, it will take you 2-3 hours to drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The national park consists of grasslands, marshes, streams, and woods that are spread out at the base of the Rwenzori mountain range. The Kazinga Channel links Lake George to Lake Edward and goes through the park. It is home to many birds and animals, including the famous Nile crocodile and one of the largest groups of hippos in the world. On your first game drive, you'll go through the park on a 200-kilometer network of well-kept roads where you can see animals. Dinner and the night at the camp of your choice.
Day 5: Go on a game drive and a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel
The meals during you safaris in Uganda are usually served before dawn, so you can start your morning game drive as the sun comes up. The "golden hours," when the first rays of sunlight hit the grassland, are when animals are most active. This implies that sunrise is the best time to enjoy your wildlife safaris in Uganda. You might see a lion or leopard today if you're really lucky. Other animals you might see today include elephants, buffalo, and many kinds of deer.
Later in the day, when the sun is high and animals are coming to the river to drink, you will be taken on an exciting boat tour in Kazinga Channel. You'll see a lot more hippos than you can think of. Herds of elephants and buffalos will also go to the coast to cool off in the water. There are many reasons why a boat tour is one of the best things about Queen Elizabeth National Park safaris in Uganda. For many, it's the best way to get close to animals.
Day 6: Gorilla trekking safari in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
A gorilla trekking safari is a memorable chance to see the rare and unique Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Half of the world's gorillas live in the misty canopy of Uganda's oldest and most ecologically diverse jungle. With the help of a knowledgeable park guide, you will be able to find one of the 9 family groups that live here.
Before you reach the mountain gorillas' home range, your hike will take you through wooded (and sometimes muddy and slippery) hills, thick vegetation, tangled vines, and bamboo forests. Along the way, your guide will point out clear signs of recent gorilla activity, such as nests, gorilla poop, and bamboo shoots that have been chewed. Based on where the mountain gorillas are that day, the hike could last anywhere from 2-7 hours. Once you find the gorilla family, take it easy and enjoy the hour you have to study these amazing animals in silence. Their habits and ways of doing things are so much like ours.
Day 7: Journey to Kigali and fly to Nairobi for a Kenya safari
After breakfast, your driver guide will drive you across the border into Rwanda and drop you off at Kigali International Airport 3 hours before your flight to Nairobi. When you get to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, another driver guide from Dav Safaris will meet you and drive you to your overnight stay.
Day 8: Game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park
Have breakfast at your lodge, and then meet your guide at 8 am for your first Kenya safari. In Lake Nakuru National Park, go on an organized game drive. Lake Nakuru National Park is at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley. It is surrounded by grasslands and forests. From Lake Nakuru to the nearby cliffs and beautiful peaks, there is a lot of natural variety and a wide range of environments to enjoy.
At the lodge, you can eat lunch and take a break before going on an afternoon safari, when it's a little cooler and the light is better. Keep an eye out for lions, buffalo, antelopes, warthogs, and other animals. Later, have dinner and spend the night at the lodge of your choice.
Day 9: Transfer to Maasai Mara National Reserve
After a breakfast that starts early, you will go to the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. In southern Kenya, close to the border with Tanzania, lies the Maasai Mara, a place with stunning views, huge fields, and a myriad of wild animals all year round. Also, from July to October, almost 2 million wildebeest stay there on their way north from Tanzania's Serengeti every year. Other wild animals include zebras, lions and the graceful cheetahs.
Days 10 and 11: Maasai Mara wildlife safaris
Animals are most busy in the "golden hours," which start when the first rays of sunlight hit the savannah. This makes sunrise the best time to see wildlife. Early morning is the best time to see the thrill of the chase, or at least the aftermath of a game, because few predators hunt during the day.
Ensure to bring packed lunch for a full-day game drive or go back to camp for a hot lunch and then go back to the bush in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the night at camp and have dinner under the stars.
Day 12: Lake Naivasha Kenya safari
After breakfast, head east toward Lake Naivasha. Many different kinds of wild animals live in the lake, including a lot of hippos. As a freshwater lake, it has a lot of fish, which draws birds that eat fish, like long-tailed and great cormorants, fish eagles, pelicans, and different kinds of kingfishers. You will go on a boat tour to see the lake and the animals that live in it. You will spend the night at the Naivasha Sopa Lodge.
Day 13: Return to Nairobi
Enjoy the last day of you Kenya safari and depending on what time your departure flight is, you might be able to go on an optional trip near Lake Naivasha or in downtown Nairobi. The driver guide will drive you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to complete your safaris in Uganda and Kenya.
